DRIVEN OR BEING DRIVEN
There are many occasions in life when one receives a push, a jolt to pursue a dream or go after a vision. In this quest the major question is; what pushes you? Or as some would say, what drives you? Learn from this illustration.
A certain middle-aged man, looking haggard, tattered, roughened and unkempt, with a gangrenous sore on his left leg, sat by the roadside begging for alms as his custom was.Time after time, passersby took pity on him and gave him money but none ever looked at him and asked him what he really wanted.
Then one day a young man approached him and asked “Sir, what do you really want?” “Do want to be a beggar all your life?” he continued. “I have observed that even though you are given money, you remain sad and gloomy”. And for the first time in his twenty years of roadside alms begging, the man smiled and responded. “You are the first person to ever ask me what I wanted”. The younger man was surprised, with shock written all over his face.
Then the beggar asked, “What drove you to over and talk with me?”
The younger man replied “I saw you were lonely”.
Then he asked the young man to tell him more about himself. The man heaved a heavy sigh and lamented, “I’m a lonely man, nobody cares about me, what I drink, eat or wear, and I am a greatlyin debt”.He paused for a while letting the warm tears stream down is lean cheeks before he continued. “The man I’m indebted to has come to take my family away from me; my wife and two children are with him anduntil I pay my debts, I will never see them again”. “They have been with him for twenty years now” he wailed.
The beggar beheld him and said, “Young Man I know all these things. I have been waiting here for twenty years, waiting for you to come, but you never came”. “For twenty years I have sat here, patiently awaiting your approach but you always walk past me” He continued
The Young Man was puzzled beyond measure and inquired from the beggar how he became privy to this discreet information.
He responded “My eyes have fixed on you”. “The solution to your money problems” he continued, “is in your backyard. Go home, dig the ground and you will find precious stones of inestimable value that will clear your debt and give you a great financial start”
And so the young man went and found the beggars story true. That day, he recovered his family and his story changed.
From the above illustration, the young man had a drive to solve his life problems but he had no clue where to start from. He needed a nudge in the right direction and he got his answers while paying attention to the needs of others. Sometimes, all we need do to get solution to certain issues is to look away from ourselves to someone in need. While we are helping others, help arises for us. Do not be weary in well doing…
Get driven in the right direction today as you open yourself up to the Masters push and allow His steering in the right direction.
